Latitude Group Travel International PD Opportunities

ASTA has recently partnered with Latitude Group Travel, an educational and school group tour specialist to offer new opportunities for teacher professional development. Along with the successful Australia-Japan Science Teacher Exchange, Latitude and ASTA will be offering high-quality bespoke, national and international STEM-focused tours for teacher professional development. 

In 2017 two very exciting international tours are available. Both of these tours will operate at the end of Term three, 2017. 

 

TOUR 1

USA: From Microchip to Spaceship

23 September - 4 October 2017

Escorted by a dedicated Tour Director and highly qualified Australian STEM teacher:

  • Visit a high tech high school to observe classes and participate in teacher workshops
  • Take a tour of Boeing with a STEM workshop to follow
  • Spend the day on Puget Sound taking measurements on an Eco-Science vessel
  • Go behind the scenes at the California Academy of Sciences
  • Take workshops at the Teacher Institute, run by the Exploratorium
  • Observe a class undertaking a simulated space mission
  • See the Space Shuttle Endeavour
  • Visit NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory for a guided tour
  • Optional days at Disney for observing student Science workshop

Member Cost: $6,475 (ex Sydney)

Non-member Cost: $6,775

Cost is per person and includes flights, twin share accommodation, meals, activities. Single supplement additional $900 pp

TOUR 2

Hawaii - Land of Fire

23 September - 1 October 2017


This tour is escorted by Suzie Urbaniak, winner of the 2016 Prime Minister's Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools:

  • Take a lava boat ride to see the lava entering the Pacific Ocean, an unforgettable sight
  • See the olive green sand at Papakolea which gets its colour from olivine crystals created by volcanic eruptions
  • Visit the world famous Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
  • Enjoy a Luau Feast and show
  • Visit the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre
  • Walk on newly formed crust, steps away from flowing lava
  • Drive from sea level to over 4,000 metres in around 2 hours
  • View the late stage rift between the two shield volcanoes - Wainae and Koolau
  • Hike the world's most recognised volcanic crater - Diamond Head
 

Member Cost: $5,900 (ex Sydney)

Non-member Cost: $6,200
