ASTA SERG Program

Rationale for the project

The role of the CSIRO Science Education Reference Group (SERG) is to provide advice and contribute to the development of Educator Professional Learning programs and classroom resources delivered nationally by CSIRO Science Education and Outreach (CEdO).

This in turn will enable the Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA) and CEdO to better meet the needs of Australia’s science teachers.

SERG Advisory Panel structure

The term for an advisory panel consultant is one year with a possibility of an extension.

The panel of 10 consultants will be made up of:

educators representing schools that focus on underrepresented groups in STEM including female identifying students, First Nations students, regional and remote locations, lower opportunity areas (ICSEA<1000).

educators, including but not limited to First Nations education workers, classroom teachers, STEM specialist teachers, guidance counsellors and those in school leadership positions

educators representing schools from different states and territories

educators representing schools from different jurisdictions (e.g. state, private, independent)

educators representing schools with year levels from K to 12

At a minimum, we are aiming to have four regional teachers, at least one remote or very remote, one from each of WA, NT, SA and Tasmania, at least one Aboriginal Education worker, primary and secondary representation, and a range of genders.
