Teaching Science publishes refereed articles contributing to the theory and practice of science education.
Teaching Science includes material of interest to all sectors of the science education community—primary, secondary, tertiary and trainees. We invite primary and secondary teachers, teacher educators, community-based science education officers, pre-service teachers, and others with an interest in improving the quality of science teaching to submit articles.
Teaching Science particularly values descriptions of practice, including thematic work, as well as contributions from teachers who have researched their own classroom practice.
Manuscripts are peer reviewed anonymously by reviewers in addition to being evaluated by the editor. Contributors should refer to recent issues of the journal to see the types of presentations therein. Contributors should also note that—except in specific, pre-arranged circumstances—Teaching Science does not accept material that has been published, or is due to be published, elsewhere. Submissions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. They will then be forwarded to the Teaching Science Editor, who will submit them to the reviewing panel. You will be contacted regarding the progress of your submission as soon as possible, but due to the nature of the review process this can take up to 10–12 weeks, perhaps longer, so please be patient.
All articles must be accompanied by a completed Manuscript Submission Form.
Academic articles should not normally exceed 6,000 words plus figures, tables and references. Short concisely written articles are very welcome. Please use headings and sub-headings to give your article structure.
Teaching Science uses The Macquarie Dictionary as our spelling reference and APA Style for citations and references.
Submissions should not contain footnotes or endnotes: Teaching Science does not publish articles that contain these.
Academic articles are subject to peer review by two reviewers.
Teaching Science is always eager to include articles describing hands-on science classroom activities and reports on events and programs that would be of interest to our readers. In general, these articles should not exceed 2,000 words and should include at least four images.
When writing your article use the active voice wherever possible, and first person if appropriate. Research shows that readers appreciate the personal touch. These articles must be relevant to supporting teachers in delivering the Australian Curriculum: Science.
Event reports should be interesting/engaging and provide information of value to teachers and not simply be advertisements for programs or events.
These articles and event reports are reviewed by at least one reviewer.
