1. As a volunteer with the Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA), you may be required to undertake a Criminal History Record Check and a Working With Children’s Check. Before such checks are undertaken you will be asked to provide further documentation and give your consent to such a check.  
  2. You understand that you will be assigned duties by staff members of ASTA, and you will only undertake those duties assigned to you.  
  3. You understand that, as a volunteer, you are a representative of ASTA and agree to uphold its principles and standards and agree to abide by ASTA’s policies, failure to do so may result in an appropriate course of action being taken by ASTA, which may include terminating your volunteer placement. Copies of these policies can be accessed by contacting ASTA’s Office Manager via email at asta@asta.edu.au 
  4. You understand that as a volunteer you will not receive a wage, salary or other benefits reserved for employees.
  5. You understand that no expenses will be reimbursed.
  6. The activities you perform as a volunteer for ASTA will involve access to confidential information. You should not discuss, copy, or share sensitive information with members of the public or other organisations outside of ASTA, without the express written permission of ASTA’s CEO. Also, you should not use information gained in the course of your volunteer placement to cause harm or detriment to ASTA, any person or body.
  7. As a volunteer, you grant exclusive permission to ASTA for use of any materials produced during the period of engagement as a volunteer to become the property of ASTA.
  8. Volunteers have a responsibility to take reasonable care for the health and safety of others; and to co-operate with any health, safety, or welfare requirements. This includes abiding by all Work Health and Safety policy.  
  9. As an ASTA volunteer, you commit to not do anything to compromise safety, or the safety of others and you understand that there may be risks associated with providing particular voluntary services. It is a duty of volunteers to notify the ASTA CEO or relevant staff member you report to, of a situation that is, or may be, a health or safety concern for you, them or others.
  10. If you have a dispute or grievance relating to your voluntary placement with ASTA, you are encouraged to firstly contact the relevant staff member you report to and discuss your concerns. Should this matter not be resolved to your satisfaction please contact ASTA’s CEO.  
  11. ASTA may from time-to-time feature articles or updates about the work carried out by our volunteers, across our communication channels. To do this ASTA would like to use your profile and image, before we do so we will discuss this with you.
