Funding opportunity: National Science Week School Grants now open for applications

Schools across Australia can bring science to life in 2025 with the National Science Week School Grants. Applications are now open for funding to support innovative and engaging science events and projects during National Science Week, taking place from 9–17 August 2025.

These grants provide schools with funding to purchase materials to create hands-on, curriculum-aligned experiences that inspire students to explore and engage with science in meaningful ways. This year’s theme, ‘Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language,’ focuses on mathematics and quantum science, aligning with the United Nations International Year of Quantum Science and Technology and Australia’s role as host of the 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad.

The National Science Week School Grants are made possible by the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources and their Inspiring Australia initiative.

Why Apply?

  • Access funding (up to $500) to create science events at your school.
  • Engage students in scientific inquiry and discovery.
  • Support STEM education in line with national and international science initiatives.
  • Involve your class to your whole school and even your neighboring school/s and wider community.

The grants are open to schools of all sizes and locations, (preschools to senior secondary) encouraging educators to design experiences that spark curiosity and enthusiasm for science among students of all backgrounds.
